Annual Gifts

Gifts of Cash

A gift of cash is the most common way to support OutReach. Contributions of cash (usually made by check) may be deducted in the year the gift is made.

Credit and Debit Cards

In addition to checks, OutReach accepts MasterCard and VISA for donations, payments for tickets to events or advertising sponsorship in our publications.

Help Us Grow Program

Donors can also make monthly or quarterly pledges by credit or debit card, or through Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) from your bank account. Please contact OutReach to join our HUG pledge program.

Appreciated Securities

Gifts of appreciated stocks or bonds can provide more significant benefits. You may deduct the fair market value of appreciated securities and avoid a capital gains tax. Gifts of non-cash property may be particularly attractive now because Congress has restored full deductibility for gifts of appreciated securities and other qualified property. Please contact OutReach to arrange for a gift of securities.

Please contact OutReach if you have questions or would like more information about any of these giving options.

Fiscally Sponsored Projects

OutReach provides administrative and programmatic support to several smaller LGBT community based groups in the Madison area. OutReach receives donations for these groups, provides bookkeeping services, oversight and technical assistance to the following groups. You may donate to these groups through OutReach, using any of our fundraising programs (cash, credit or debit card, HUG program, appreciated securities.)

Please indicate the group you are supporting on your donation form, or call OutReach for more information.

Life Income Gifts

A life income gift enables you to provide life income for yourself and/or a loved one, and simultaneously benefit OutReach. There are various forms of life income gifts which can generate substantial tax and financial benefits.

Charitable Remainder Trust

You contribute cash or other assets to an irrevocable trust. You receive income from the trust for a fixed period of time, or for your entire lifetime, at either a fluctuating amount of income (unitrust) or a fixed rate (annuity trust). When you die, OutReach receives the remaining assets.

You may claim a tax deduction for the portion of the assets given to OutReach and transfer appreciated assets to the trust without paying a capital gains tax.

Charitable Lead Trust

This arrangement allows you to make charitable donations to OutReach for a fixed number of years, after which the assets are transferred to your heirs. It is possible to reduce or eliminate estate and gift taxes if the term of the trust is sufficiently long.

Life Insurance

Gifts of life insurance offer an opportunity to make a substantial contribution to OutReach that you might otherwise be unable to make. When the purpose for which a policy was purchased no longer exists, the policy can be donated and you can receive a tax deduction equal to the cash value of the policy and remove the policy from your taxable estate.

You may also wish to donate a policy to OutReach and continue to pay the premiums to receive ongoing tax deductions for charitable contributions.

Bequests

Your will is one of your most important legal documents. When properly drafted, it can distribute the property you've accumulated over your lifetime and minimize the estate tax burden. It can also be a convenient way to leave a lasting legacy for those social causes in which you believe most strongly. You could choose to include OutReach in your will as recipient of a fixed amount or a percentage of your estate. You could also specify that, after named beneficiaries are given fixed amounts, OutReach will receive the remaining assets.

Please contact OutReach if you have questions or would like more information about any of these giving options.

Workplace Giving

A simple and convenient way to make a contribution to OutReach is to give through payroll deduction at your workplace. OutReach’s workplace giving umbrella organization is Community Shares of Wisconsin (CSW).

If you work for one of the many employers that make Community Shares of Wisconsin part of their charitable payroll deduction programs, you can direct contributions to OutReach that will be regularly deducted from your paycheck and transmitted to us through CSW.

For a list of the employers who offer payroll deduction to Community Shares of Wisconsin member programs, visit the "Participating Businesses" link at CSW's Workplace Giving page.
